WATCH: How to Retain your Best People with Insightful Curiosity (E3)

This is the next in the series of videos about “The Five C’s of Post-Pandemic Management”. And today’s C is all about ‘Insightful Curiosity’ and how to keep your people, How to Keep your Best People with Insightful Curiosity.

Confident Opinions

Because insightful curiosity is being able to balance, having clear strong ‘Confident Opinions’, and listening to people and gathering information from them. So teasing out their opinions from them and balancing those because you want the truth. You want to really understand what other people are thinking so you can come to the best conclusion and have the best insight.

So, it’s about confidently expressing your opinions in a way where you are clear about the ‘Information’ you’re using, the ‘Conclusions’ you’ve been making, and the ‘Insights’ you’ve had from that. However, while you confidently express that, you do it with humility. Because you’re able to say, I don’t know the truth, this is just the truth that I’ve concluded at the moment, the insight I’ve gained.

Ask Powerful Questions

But I want to find out really what the truth is and therefore I’m going to be open to the opinions of others. And I’m going to focus on teasing that out of them. I’m going to ‘Ask Powerful Questions’ and ‘Listen really Carefully’ to it. I’m going to ‘Invite Criticism’ to say, well critique what I’ve just said, rip it shreds, see if you can tear it up, see how robust it is. But there’s also another secret to this and that’s finding out what really drives your people. Being really curious about what motivates them, about what their goals are, and being really curious about how fulfilled they are at the moment. Because the statistics are showing that a lot of people are seriously unfulfilled at work and about one in four people is going to leave their job, looking for another job. And that is really expensive and seriously disruptive.

Open and Reflective

So, with insightful curiosity, you can confidently share your opinion with humility and really gain the opinions of others. Find out what other people are thinking. Because you’re ‘Open and Reflective’ about what they’re thinking so that you can show you’re listening and then they’ll feel valued.

Exploring the Truth

Because ultimately it’s about ‘Exploring the Truth’. You want to show them that you’re really more interested in the truth than who’s right and who’s wrong. So, when it comes to really keeping your people, consider Insightful Curiosity, and Stay Curious!
